Still Silence

So still this sacred place – Sound-still, time-still, wind-still, Stifling, still, and silent. No one speaks and no bird sings: Listen to the sound of silence; The silence before the storm, or, The silence of an empty church, Dark and still, churchyard-still, silent. Silent as when the final cadence dies, The silence of unanswered questions, The silence and stillness of the hills – Overwhelming stillness, silence, Silence past, silence now, and yet to be. Timeless, silence echoes in the stillness Of the infinite void.
