Stepping Out of Time

Stepping out of time I tried to make you jealous As it slowly broke my heart Every time the music played it tore my soul apart As I walked in the room I put on my biggest smile The love songs I wished were ours played on the DJ,s dial The music had a sultry beat the night had a subtle glow Strong hands held me oh so close Yet it was you're love I wished to know All the time I danced with him You coulda tapped his shoulder I tried so hard to make you jealous in hopes it would make you bolder But step by step you walked away with each step it broke my heart every beat that the music played slowly ripped my soul apart He expressed words I wished were yours beautiful words whispered in my ear Yet as we circled round the room it was only you I wanted near My thoughts of you they lingered with each song I slowly died I longed for your familiar hands if only you had tried I wanted to make you jealous Step by step you walked away my strategy it backfired I wish I could reclaim yesterday! Chuck Melugin wrote a piece titled "One Song at a Time" that I quite enjoyed. I thought what if like most men we don't have a clue what is going through a woman's mind. So I wrote this piece from the woman's perspective. Ladies, I hope I have done okay here. Chuck I hope I have not been to bold by expanding on your amazing write.

That's what keeps us around...trying to figure them out. Listening and observation has been the best teachers for me. I like!

Hi Richard. I really like this poem. It really is a lot like what a woman would be thinking...at least I would. Nice poem!

You have such great ideas for writes Richard, and your wording and your story-telling ability always keep the reader til the end; my girlfriend has so many female friends trying to just find a 'good guy' its mind boggling; and they are nice girls --- what's wrong with 'men' these days?

Good question Keith. I think there are a lot of nice guys and girls, they just can't seem to get together.

Many women know that a relationship is not working, and yet they persist on breathing life into it. Using jealousy as a weapon only serves to make things worse! Very well tackled subject, Richard. ~ Regards // paul

You know a woman's mind and heart so well so it seems..Sometimes life is like that indeed..those We hardly try to impress will never notice...and those who do their best to get our attention remain unnoticed...C'est la vie.... Really enjoyed this Rick.Nice to see you writing..Hope you 've had a wonderful Easter. :)

Yes, a wonderful Easter but I have so much going on that I haven't had much time for writing or visiting as much as I would like. I do appreciate your visit and thoughtful comment. Hugs Rick.

You've done well, Richard. Trying to get someone jealous could backfire...Why is it that those who love...are ignored and those who don't...are desired. It's a mystery and always will be. Great write

I'm amazed at how many women are attracted to men that treat them poorly. It's almost like being addicted to a drug.

This is a clever and quite endearing poem. It's not how I felt during my teen years, but it most certainly is how I can feel sometimes now... It makes me wonder though. Don't straight men ever feel that way?

The answer is yes. I guess it all part of the jumble and gambit of human emotions.

A great and interesting twist on how a woman feels as told by a man in her shoes. You have captuered the essence quite well Richard. A awesome write. Blessings Carl

A most creative realistic piece Richard:) You brought us back to the 'teen years' where the music that played during that fateful 'dance' stays with one for life and hearing the first note, floods one with memories. Great perspective, fantastic writing. blessings xxx

WoW! Richard, You did an excellent job writing from a woman's perspective. I agree with Andrea you were very convincing. Everyone can't do this and you did it well. I tend to write from a man's perspective alot. When you have a chance read my poem " Redemption ". A without a doubt seven and a fav:-) Alexis

Richard, this is a great poetic gem.I love everything about it, from the title and taking it from a woman's perspective, to the stellar last line. I'm glad I had a small part in it's creation. My best to you, chuck

Richard, I was thinking,"why is he writing like a girl?" and then I thought,"is he writing like a gay?" So yes, my friend, you were VERY convincing!!! I have had this kind of thing happen to me. It's really heart breaking to be a teenage girl and the guy you are crushing on won't give you the time of day! So I really related to this one. That dang Chris Frogley. he was MY crush from this poem. soupmail
