Steel Heart of Time

Beyond the glass
To the silvery foil—
All is not given back
In the way of light—
The mirror
Somewhat of a thief,
Coveting a bit of warmth
For itself--
The secret flaw
In reflected image…

I feel for focus,
Refracted to a searing point—
Not of vulcanized sand
But will,
Determined to cut into
And draw blood
From the often
Steel heart of time…
