Notes About The Poem

While waiting for my wife's cataract surgery, I walked through a nearby park named “Nancy Lewis Park” Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  It was a very lovely Blue-sky Autumn Day. These were the scenes I observed along the way.

Stealing a Kiss

“Stealing a Kiss”

The Autumn Sky
Was blue.
The sun shining bright
In afternoon light.
I went for a walk
In a nearby park.

While strolling along,
A park-way path,
I came upon
A Waterlily Pond.

A family of geese,
Sailing about,
Picking at crumbs
From a man on the shore.
I stood and watched for a while.
I was pleased,
Then tarried on.

I passed little children
on swings and slides.
Their laughter carried
On a breeze.
I stood and watched for a while.
I was pleased,
then tarried on.

I passed by a shady tree;
An old man’s retreat.
His hat pulled down,
He had fallen asleep.
Daring not to wake
I stood and watched for a while.
I was pleased,
then tarried on.

Under another
Sat a mother
Nursing her child.
Serene the scene,
Intimate and clean,
Life giving life.
I stood and watched for a while.
I was pleased,
then tarried on.

On the grassy lawn
A fair maiden lay,
A Steamy Harlequin
Cupped in her hands,
A chalice of wine by her side.
I stood and watched for a while.
I was pleased,
then tarried on.

I came upon a couple,
No longer young,
Sitting on a wooded bench,
Their arms entwined,
Lips molded in love.

She winked as I
Passed them by
“Just stealing a kiss.”
Was all she said,
“Just stealing a Kiss”
Her smile told all.
I was pleased.
Then tarried on.

Was a Blue-sky Autumn Day
A lovely Blue-sky Autumn Day
I tarried on.
