Starving Hearts

Some hearts go hungry Through-out the world And never find The love they seek Some lips Are curled With pride and scorn To hide the pain They might not speak of The eyes may flash The mouth may smile And yet, Beneath it all The heart starves still Just look, find love As hearts hunger Through-out the world For them does Life’s desert hold No fountains’ shade? No gardens fair? Nor gush of waters clear and cold? But souly rough sandy reaches Far as you can see Wide and bare The foot may fail The heart may be faint Yet still, They make no complaint And speak no word Of grief or blame And yet, Beneath it all The heart starves still Just look, find love As hearts hunger Through-out the world Eager eyes Gaze afar Arms that clasp knees Or worse, empty air Or even trying Not at all Unmarked souls Are empty to the naked eye But might be filled with to a professional With pain, regret, or despair They smile, Their patient lips Will proudly hide What the heart feels So proudly numb of Just look, find love As hearts hunger Through-out the world
