Starting Over Heroes

Some kids sleep
To sounds beating
Beating scared hearts
Beating man starts
Beating woman scarred 
Beating black tar
Racing for life
Faking out time
Speeding the night
Open eyes fright
Closing blue eyes
Praying through cries
Hearts hopes dream
Perseverance purple green
Arch angel wings
Borrowed brown blessings 
Morning raises shade
Man still raged
Kids know stay
Sleep until safe
“Woman come back!”
Clothes are packed
She leaves, kids go too
Man looks doomed
Police were called
Red woman walked
Holy house call
Ran evil off
Blessed everything 
Starting over new things
Healing hazel hope
“Sometimes you have to be your own hero”

This piece right here is especially compelling, keep up the good work Karen! I congratulate you for both your craftsmanship and courage to write on a subject this difficult, the courage you have to bring this important message to light, I was especially impressed with the way you were able to convey such emotion through every short line throughout the piece, you are a truly talented poet. I use to volunteer at a support center for battered women and children. Also I had a family member in a situation that was unhealthy so she left and started over. These people were my muses so I dare not take credit for merely writing what they LIVED. Love and light to you! And thank you.

Duke Beaufort March 9, 2024 at 5:29 AM Anyone who can do this is indeed a hero. It's very difficult when the support for it isn't there. We hope to be able to support and shelter anyone who needs to get away from an abusive situation. I have been there and experienced not being able to get out. It's a really awful thing that takes a terrible toll on us. Wisdom and strength is hard to develop.
