Notes About The Poem

Beijing’s Avenue of Eternal Peace is the boulevard leading to Tiananmen Square.

Tank Man (also known as the Unknown Protester or Unknown Rebel) is the nickname of an unidentified man who stood in front of a column of tanks on June 5, 1989, the morning after the Chinese military had suppressed the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 by force.

Standing For Peace

Anyone can stand, lost in the crowd, 
And let the crowd sing their song,
Anyone can pose behind other’s backs, 
Pretending that they are the strong,

But those with courage, valour and grit, 
Those who make their own choice,
Those who know what they really stand for, 
They are the ones with a voice, 

The voice which they use to stare others down, 
The voice to silence the crowd,
The voice they use without uttering a word, 
The voice that’s louder than loud.

They know what is false, they can see what is wrong, 
They’re the ones up for the fight,
To make things better for everything there, 
For nature, for happy, for right.
