Stand Up To Stutter

We have chosen a leader who stutters
too many only saw his speaking flaw.
Stumbling over stiff words as he utters
blurring his momentous messages of awe.

Accepting duty makes us who we are
so speak out only for what you believe.
Mounting the tall peaks so as to reach far
in service of others then you achieve.

Some search all around and find the other
so be careful and watch who you eschew.
Greeting each one as sister and brother
trust in yourself to do what you must do.

We wanted values which would help the weak
fill haunting hopes we all so dearly seek.

Tribute to Joseph R. Biden elected President USA in 2020.
He overcame stuttering and promotes virtue and empathy.

I really enjoyed your engrossing sonnet Greg but our second line sums up for me everything that is wrong with todays society. ie judging a book by its cover and taking things and people at face value without investing time in understanding what they are about. People are too easily swayed by others; they should stay true to themselves. Your poem has certainly stirred my emotions and that has to be a good thing. Cheers - Gary

Such quiet and heartfelt humility in this. I enjoyed reading your poem and imagined it being spoken.

Hello Greg Gaul, if someone came up tom to speak and that person stutters, I would listen to that person speak until that person was done. because it is the proper thing to do. Hugs Darlene
