Squirrel with a Bicycle

A fish without a bicycle, a squirrel without a tree - these are the things that trouble me. They make me chew my fingers and give me such a fright. These are the very things that keep me up at night. A fish without a bicycle, a squirrel without a tree - These are the things I hope I never see.

I loved and appreciated the light humor in your words. I needed lightness today. Thank you, Sara

Dependency and the organic structure of things are essential themes in your excellent poem, David. It offers a humorous yet moving study of the ridiculousness of a squirrel without a tree and a fish without a bicycle, implying that some things have innate needs and relationships that cause them to suffer when they are disturbed.
