Spurned Love
Listen to poem:
Oh wretched heart, that beats with sorrowed sighs,
And mourns the loss of love once held so dear,
For thou art now the object of despise,
Rejected by the one thou held so near.
Thou art the fool who loved with all thy might,
And gave thy soul to one who did not care,
Whose heart was cold and callous as the night,
Whose love was false, and left thee in despair.
Oh cruel fate, that mocks thy lovesick pain,
And leaves thee to lament what might have been,
For all thy hopes and dreams were all in vain,
And now thou art alone with grief within.
But hark, dear heart, though now thou art forlorn,
Love may yet find thee, on some distant morn.
