Protractive silence, air that's still Not a sound from morn's whip-poor-will There's a growing anxiety The scene requires sobriety Zigzag lightnings flash, thunder rolls Hairy disturbed as the storm unfolds Tornado warnings west of here Just the thought, stirs up fear Dear God fill me with your sweet peace From anxiety, bring relief Let the storm only, bring good rain From above, these clouds gently tame Help me do, what I need to do Give me strength to follow through

The ominous stillness and the sudden change into darker skies and blowing wind, portending severe storm---- all so beautifully expressed here ! On such moments we can only pray for less destruction and greater safety !

Valsa, Yes, it is something about the quiet, stillness that says something bad is about to happen. Your visit has been uplifting. Thanks, Sara

Thank you, Mystic. We did not get anything bad only the rain and lightning. We were all safe just damp and the yard turned into a tributary to the creek below us. Sara

Phyllis, At least we don't live in tornado alley, but they do happen here but not right here close to us. There have been two very bad ones in the last few years a few miles away. Our son-in-law's brother was killed in a tornado a few years back. They were triplets and this one was exactly like my son-in-law. He had to go in and identify the body which had to have been horrible for him. Thanks for stopping by. Sara

Sara, so emotional. I have a visceral response to the approaching storm. So descriptive. The anxiety and change in the skyline and stillness of the air ever present . Help me do what I need to do . So well expressed. Blessings, Susan :)

Susan, When it is going to be bad on some storms, there is a quiet and stillness just before the storm comes. I don't know if the animals can feel the electricity in the air but they seem to know something is going to happen. We did not have any bad storm here but some did below us and above us. I know of one death. Thanks for your visit. Sara

Love the anticipation, Sara, afraid of the Tornado, yet wanting the rain, not the destruction. Lovely Poem.

Harry, We were spared the bad winds but we did get a large amount of rain with the lightning storms. They have just stopped. I think the prediction for today is some sun. Thanks for the visit. Sara

Sandra, Fine rendering of the storm in this poem. Yet we feel more alive, more vulnerable in their raw power and might. -Richard

Richard, Yes, when those spring storms come, we have to be on guard because there can always be a tornado or other winds that come with them. God has protected us and He will continue to do so, but He wants us to use common sense. The county has installed a siren(like an old war air raid siren right at my back door so we should be able to hear it(they check it on Wednesdays and it nearly makes me deaf) and seek shelter. It doesn't work sometimes though..LOL..Your visit is inspiring. Sara
