Celebrating today--the beginning of spring
The arrival of spring is a double delight,
Both a welcome revival and winter's good night.
It's a frigid departure, emotional lift,
And a planet refurbished, and God-given gift.
Spring is hope and renewal, a play unrehearsed,
When the cold's interruption of growth is reversed.
It's when optimist's reign, when the weather turns fair,
When the world moves outdoors, and there's love in the air.
Spring is budding and bulbs from which blossoms emerge
And is rains that refresh and cause rivers to surge.
Mother Earth comes alive, a tsunami of green,
Feathered migrants arrive, and first robin is seen.
Spring's when trees add a ring and new wildlife is born,
When vast floral eruptions the meadows adorn.
It's when campers in forests with nature commune
And is plowing and planting and weddings in June.
Spring brings thawing and potholes and mowing the lawn.
It's awaking to sunshine and chirping at dawn.
Hibernation now ends, daylight saving returns,
Worn are sandals and shorts, and the school year adjourns.
Spring is Easter and April when taxes are paid
And Memorial Day when our banner's displayed.
It's Kentucky's famed derby, the Masters in May,
And the marathon, Indy, and opening day.
A spectacular season, the calendar's heart,
That with colorful scenes is terrestrial art.
It brings zest to the year with the winter now dead
And we savor the sun knowing summer's ahead.
