This was 20150220 for the Here Comes The Spring/Flower Song contest.

Americans are rarely connected to the sources of their food.  Amazingly, not all kids know that milk comes from cows or fruits and vegetables grow on vines, trees, or bushes.  Most don't realize how fragile the food supply chain is.  We don't all learn from disasters that grocery store shelves will empty within a week.  The only American folks who end to handle regional emergencies or disasters well are religious groups like the Mormons (my denomination), Quakers, Mennonites, or Amish because they encourage home food production and emergency food and fuel storage.

The weather will soon be getting warmer. Watching economics and politics, I’m teaching myself to be a farmer-- Anticipating an Apocalypse. It’s time to rototill my backyard lawn, And remove decorative plants and weeds. My ‘raised bed’ ‘square foot’ garden plans are drawn; Ready to plant heirloom vegetable seeds. It’s time we start providing for ourselves! The government’s nearly in bankruptcy. It’s foolish to expect grocery store shelves To have food during a catastrophe. Go buy your trellises and garden string. Plant your future meals, because here comes Spring.

Wise words indeed Mark and I too am saddened at the ignorance of some people regarding where the food on their table actually comes from:-( Happy planting and hope you have a fruitful harvest:-) hugs jan xx 7 xx

Thanks Jan. I'll probably rototill the backyard tomorrow. I plan to build a structure with two tripods and a cross bar with netting to grow veggies with vines right in the middle, and bush/root veggies around it. Need to plant my berry bushes too--they're starting to bud in the pots.
