Their smiles , citizens, unafraid to so do. Is what brought me back to San Francisco. I’d get inane ideas , that Chicago was better. But once back there,I loathed the weather. Being a Chicagoan, born, I had many warm ties. But my heart beat only, for San Francisco skies. I longed to hear the magical cable cars ring. It seemed my suitcase, in the closet, to that tune , would only sing. One New Year’s Eve in the midst of an icy snowstorm , At a party, I announced. I was moving back west, to where I belonged! My dream was met with angst and derision. The more people said, “No”, they really cemented my decision. The decades like a zephyr train , simply whizzed by. And I have lived here and met incredible people under California skies. Sunny skies, those western, smiles, are a year round event. And as my grateful days, come to close, I pray to heaven, I will be sent!

I loved San Francisco as a child, my heart was broken when our family moved from the Bay Area when I was young. The sunset, the green grassy hills, the scent of the ocean just lifted my spirit, and the seagulls, oh goodness. Everyone was SO kind, I loved it SOOOO much!!! I hear things are changed now, I want my memories and longing to stay alive. I used to think Eden was hidden there, it was so wonderful. The Golden Gate, such a lovely vision. Thank you for writing this Pangie <3 Golden memories!

Hi BJ, my daughter also went to school in the Marina she loved the city as we did. To me SF was Eden. I have written so many poems about SF and probably always.I won’t go near it now, but Tony Bennet said it all in his song. My life transformed in SF. The fog was like God kissing my cheek. I cried when we left. Pangie Thank you

San Francisco isn’t the same as it was 45 years ago. Then it was so beautiful and wonderful. A great place to be.

It’s changed radically leftist, and violent. Before, all views were accepted. No more. School names are changed to honor leftist heroes. Founding Fathers names are erased. But this move is not unusual in America. You attended schools that were sane! Pangie Thank you.

Well, feces and fentanyl aside, I hear the views are still terrific. ~ Tony Bennett

Now, now , my friend! Tony Bennett never said that. Besides, he died a few weeks ago. Let’s have a modicum of some respect.. you take credit for that saying..not him! Sorry this response is late, I needed time off..Pangie

I love this Pangie. SF was always a special place for me...in my late teens and 20s. It had changed quite a bit the last time I was there. :)

For you, Linda, who was blessed to see a long ago. I understand your memories.. I have mine, too. I was married in that city. I think you know that.. and the city long ago had room for many ideas and points of view and I like that. Not anymore it’s fully LEFT only.it’s violent. Go to you tube,,,,you won’t recognize it. The folks who work in the federal building have been told not to come to work there anymore because it’s swarming with drug dealers and druggies outside. They have to work from home. Stores are closing, left and right. A dream that morphed into a night mare. Thanks…Pangie

An enjoyable poem to read about a 'once?' great city. It seems that thousands of others had been drawn there, too, and your poem explains it well.

Greetings, David! I have penned so many poems about, “The City.” And this won’t be my last! As you may know 500,000 left CA last year alone! Our,looney Governor thinks whatever you earn is theirs? Communistas! SF, no kidding was such a great place for freedom of expression, I do know its crime city and so sad, for I loved it so. Pangie

Great poetry my very good friend. Back in the 80's I had a great friend that was from San Fran, and he was a super friend. He finally joined the Navy and away he went. We were best buddies and his leaving made an impression on me. But he always bragged on San Fran as if it was nirvana. Your poem a fav. God bless..

Hi Bob, Your friend was so right. This city captures you, like romantic lover on a Sring night, under the stars! As you stroll though a Misty fog. These days, not a city to go near. Visitors especially, no longer safe. But while I was there…it was safe ..all day and all night. The earthquakes scared me but never lasted long. Glad I was long gone before the Loma Prieta in 1980. We had a friend jump off the GG Bridge and survive! Wow, that’s a miracle plus.the famous people I met there were awesome. Bless you and yours. And gracias for the fav. Panagiota

Hi, Miss Darlene! If you read the poem again, you will know the answer!I have grown to love being here, I don’t live far from it, but am not interested in being harmed San Francisco has turned into a living hell for many. I take no chances going back as crime is prevalent, homeless all over the p,ace, Stealing is rampant, mothers attacked with bats. And no way coukd I manage walking up or down a hill dope is Plentiful there. I can dream of the glorious days, that is a good thing, but~ have no interest in being hurt. Thanks! hugs, Pangiota.

San Francisco was really lovely till the 80s..Nonetheless, my days there were like living a dream. Smiles, food, friends.I will not go near it anymore. But the city I live in is terribly friendly and no kidding on the California smiles. The great lightness of being,is a good way to put it. I will forever miss the fog and the Bridge and it’s great foods. But awesome living in wine country with families and low crime. Hugs, Pangie
