Spirit
Spirit
Their spirit
Graced Africa
Their obsidian skin glistened
And illuminated their way
Their sweat
The bread of their labor
Nourished the earth
Their beads and body art
The pride of their tribe
Their bodies
instruments of the almighty God
Their days ritualized
In communion with their brothers
And the world beyond the clouds
They received rain
Washing away their tears
And soothing their pain
Struggle overcome
The thunder clapped
And lightening photographed
The gift of life
Within its heart
Bigger is their cause
Their scars,
Their mark
Their narrative
A seed deeply ingrained
Inside it’s kin
The essence of the wild
Their swimming in the Nile
Their children they begot
Their kingdom on the other side
Magnificent
Their fountain
Overflowing with abundance
My destiny written in their hands
