Spare Me From Frivolous Debate

Spare me from those self-righteous snobs
Who think they have all the answers to life,
Leaving no room for alternative explanation
Or different interpretations, creating strife.
They are so full of pride and continually preen
Looking down on everyone condescendingly,
While believing they alone possess the truth
They treat all who disagree disrespectfully.
They are akin to those folks who "know it all,”
Who are unwilling to consider any other way
And, who will argue their point vehemently,
Sometimes mouthing off just to create a fray.
I have found it’s best to avoid them, if possible
Certainly not to engage them in foolish debate,
For wasting one’s time in frivolous discussion
Will never help their appetite for argument sate.

The most ignorant people I know do this more than sometimes, Hank. "Sometimes mouthing off just to create a fray."

Indeed. And, I'll bet you see a lot of it between teachers, who are, as a general rule, rather highly opinionated.

Only ones who have all the answers to life are either deluded or morons, I think it’s great to bandy about our differences without dismissing others out of hand, if someone comes at us all guns ablaze, they can just expect more of the same back, sorry Milton sometimes I just cannot turn the other cheek, probably to my own detriment, excellent piece of writing, cheers David

Thank you, David. Nor can I. I suppose that's just a normal response, but I think we can aspire to ignoring a good deal of the ridiculous banter.

Yep, glad to hear it, Tom. Some of these folks absolutely relish stirring dissent. I don't need those kind in my life, frankly.

Milton, your poem and subject are outstanding. Your diction is impeccable, and everything you say is entirely accurate. I agree with your point of view that avoiding these people is preferable to preserve our essential time while also being free of emotional anguish.

I completely agree, Milton. The last four lines say it all. Masterfully written. Blessings, Evelyn
