Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away. ~ Carl Sandburg
Poetry is a lesson for the undeserving heart,
a promise of tomorrow revealed in yesterday’s thoughts,
a moment in time, reflected on the soul – stardust ink,
blown over the spirit in imaginative adjectives, verbs
destined for the light where this rhyme realizes
it has been blessed with a lyrical rhythm, a beat
inspired by the dreams, the fanciful silences, verses
and visions, syllables counted and thrown about, free -
the music of prayer and praise, whispering in the wind
a song, both graceful and wise, healing the soul
by writing out its beautiful, bleeding its miracles
in hues of joy and stirrings of creativity, the muse
embracing the fires of insight and wisdom, the gentle
in a kiss, the murmur so blessed, the poetry
promising to sing to the soul of a hope, a dream, a prayer
forever in the one who writes without leaving out
anything, not even a laugh – not ever a smile –
this is poetry – sounds like love to my aching heart!
