Sonnet 18

Shall we observe you in a prying way? Thou art more deceptive and transparent: As rebels jounce with NATO in the fray, And summer's war will further reveal your face: Fraudulently, “the eye of heaven shines,” Certainly, this escape, unproductive; And as the lies and bombs intensify, America’s hegemony locked in; But thy eternal brute force shall not fade Nor will the acquisition of resources; Nor shall the debt owed to China be paid, When in the face of truth most minds doth slowest: So long as privileged western eyes don’t see, So long lives this and perpetuates thee. A clever pastiche based on THE sonnet 18 (which I regard as one of the greatest poems ever written). I'm sure that Shakespeare would have a little chuckle, were he here today. Well done.
