Song of a Protestor 2020
SONG OF A PROTESTOR
How sweet to have a conscience that is clear
Can laud myself for righteousness conspicuous
Support all worthy politics, no fear
That I’d be charged as fascist, avaricious
Equality and fairness are my watchwords
You’ve more than me? I’ll be like Robin of Locksley
I’ll take from you, imprimatur conferred
With government empowered as my proxy
If green and peaceful then it must be noble
No mind that it removes your free volition
We know what’s best for all, and with power global
We’ll have no strife, just placid full submission
You disagree? Won’t ask you on what basis
For I know the reason is: you’re a bigoted racist
POST SCRIPT for SPRING 2020
There come events when evil deeds are wrought
Revealed to all the nation to be grieved
The strong emotions roused and feelings fraught
Should never go to waste, a chance perceived
To catalyse our protests and refine
Our image and project a virtue sign
We‘ll use street violence disguised as justice
Seen in shop windows cracked from side to side
The town once emptied by a virus dust is
Now occupied by looters, open wide
Our righteous rage and tears shall be unfurled
Unsheathing one more sword to change your world
Our narrative is spread mythologised
‘Hands up! Don’t shoot! Established now as real
Minor criminals are martyred - canonised
While you of more possession now must kneel
And pay redress for your ancestors’ sins
Thus equality of suffering begins
