Song For the Autumn Equinox
SONG FOR THE AUTUMN EQUINOX
Hush now-- the man in the moon is speaking
-- his voice a mere whisper over water--
here we rehearse the dance of lightning bugs,
flit of light among cottonwood and pine:
by the capped well the cicada have stopped singing,
the seventeen-year visitor departed,
and soon this moon herself will rise into autumn
bearing the summer in her arms.
