Sometimes There Are Just Too Few Syllables

One Or two Maybe three Or perhaps, four Five is pushing it It’s surely never six And seven would be insane On eight my chin would hit the floor But nine is just eight with enhancements While ten almost outnumbers commandments Ten means there’s someone for etheree one Nine is four pairs and a spare, not two Eight?…… two to the power of three Seven? three boys, but girls - four ;-) Six; break an egg - that’s five Five - coochy coo: six Four from seven?… Three (not eight) Two?….. nein! Won? :-(

I’m sure I don’t know what you mean. By the way, my next poem is, ‘The inescapable truth that the inescapable cannot be escaped from unless you have escaped from an inescapable truth in which case it is escapable.’ It’s a sure fire commercial success, you should check it out… but not until it’s worldwide publication date! ;-)

Thanks, Jerry. I’m pretty convinced this will leave the sponsor cold… but I kinda liked its abject and predictable failure. Thank heaven for smileys.

You know, Jan, it simply never occurred to me that you can’t start a line with ‘one’ and end it with ‘ten’ in just one syllable… until I got within a line or two of it… Duh! I think I got away with it… shhhhh!

I tried so hard (in the second half) to get each line to end with the ascending number… but with two syllables… it wasn’t gonna happen… so in the spirit of ‘make the most of what you have’ I ‘cheated’. Glad you spotted the effort entailed, Deb. Thanks muchly. Terry x
