Sometimes, Sadly

There exist some souls with deranged minds -
psychopathic narcissists and sociopaths
who never can change.
Something got twisted inside them
and it invaded their brain.

Strange hideous thoughts seem to follow them
since their youngest days.
They stalk; they punish; they kill.
Their pleasure is another’s pain.
Love they cannot give, for love they cannot feel
although they may be talented
at mimicking affection.

Those with the misfortune of being their kin
or those having been sucked into
their initial charming graviational force
and fall too quickly in love with them
will one day learn a lesson
(and hopefully not tragically):
Sometimes, sadly,
love is not enough.

When love's replaced with bitter scorn. Nothing but hate will then be born. That tender place of Cupid's aim. Now turned to stone, never the same. Yes sadly, sometimes love does not win. So we pray for strength against the sin. Pretty powerful poem you've written here girl. <3 :)

Wow Andrea … this verse of yours has the feel of fear and despair which sadly is the way of life in some families and communities. It's hard to comprehend the human mind when we read about some deeds that are senseless - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

Your poem reminded me of the serial killers that seem so normal yet they are anything but. A great entry for the contest Andrea!

We often wonder how people become "twisted" in this fashion. Some are raised in close-knit families. It would be hard to fall for such people, but even harder to stay with them after we see the type of people they are. A tender, touching poem that should do well in the contest, Hon. Wishing you success! Hugs, carolyn

I almost believe at least a few of them are just "born that way" kind of like what was depicted in "the bad seed" Very weird how one can be in a family of completely normal and wholesome kids but end up the killer among them.

so very true this one is...some people are incapable of love but good con artists, the victims love them deeply but eventually realize love is not enough...good write :) hugs

Hi Andrea, This is a great take on the contest theme. When in love or when you love someone, love can be blind. No one wants to believe that someone they love could be like you so brilliantly described. I had know doubt that you would write something good. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

So true--so real life, Andrea--some indeed don't deserve the hand of genuine love, given their disposition to disrupt and destroy. Well said, Andrea.

Love is vital but cannot change all situations as you point out clearly in your stimulating write. Peace & Love Matthew Anish
