Something So Lovely About a Nap.

theres something so lovely, about an afternoon nap.
eyes tired from reading too many novels,
from trying to stay awake in class.
for moving as the photographer wants me to,
for criticizing yearbook photos and wishing i could smile brighter.

my mind is weak for thinking too much,
about the present and homework,
about coming of age stories,
about university and the future,
about sex and scandal and the things i can never have.

my heart is sore, and bruised,
because of the times my face gets lost in the crowd,
because my name is so easily confused with others,
because geography is against me,
because im too much like everyone else.

and so i nap, to relieve my pains,
too soothe my soul,
to restore myself for another day.
