Someone to spoon me
The image of you in bed holds me
Your back turned to me curled
Your being waiting to be spooned
Like a warm scoop of ice cream
Dripping with sentiment I rise
I know today you will leave me
This is the only real photo I cherish
We all must get out of bed someday
Loneliness says come to bed
Picture the negative developing
You pull me or is it me that sinks?
You leave your depression
The cavity beside me needs a body
Something heavy like loneliness
Something light like apparitions
I need something to spoon
Even if it’s me with a knife and fork
You and me playing pretend
Some never sleep alone
Some that’s all they know
Some wait for a bed to be shared
I dread the depression you leave
Loneliness comforts the bereft
It says let’s be exclusive
In the end we all go to bed alone
The coldness of it all absorbing us
To the lucky loved ones gather round
To the lonesome God climbs into bed
He spoons us all in the dead of night
Loneliness move over
