Some Nuts That We Call Nuts

( To be sang to the tune of - " If You're Happy and You 
        Know It... " )

Here's a fun little fact you'll find quite cute,
Some nuts that we call, " Nuts" are really fruit!
The Pistachio, Cashew
Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans too
Are some nuts that we call, " Nuts " - but they are fruit!

And these nuts that we call, " Nuts " - though they are fruit
Are not the only ones that leave us duped.
Peanuts are culprits too!
What we eat, we have no clue.
And in Botany these nutty fruits are Drupes.

Though these fruits hold on to their nutty veneer,
There are genuine Nuts out there, have no fear!
True Nuts, it may sound odd
Are protective, hard shelled pods
Containing fruit and seed of plants that hold them dear.

And just incase you're not confused enough,
Let me fill you in about the Coconut...
It's a seed, a fruit, a nut
Also healthy for the gut
So not all foods that are called, " nut " are really Nuts!

One of the panelists gave a speech about nuts. So I thought I'd look this up for myself. It was quite interesting. This song was fun to write. And who doesn't like a bit of "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands'? :-D
