Some Call You Dictator
Some call you dictator; others think you are a hero
I have no idea; but love it that you rose from the ranks
Some say you are squelching them, others are impressed by you.
I have no idea, but know you have been peasant, soldier, scholar.
You watched the exiting president for five years.
Waiting your turn, causing no undue stress.
You have advocated free trade with Japan, Europe and Africa.
These are admirable qualities, President Xi.
Some hate you for things you have done or not done.
Others relish your wise practices and tout your wisdom.
You have seen much in your almost sixty-seven years.
Your accomplishments are well known.
Many follow your lead, praising your practices.
Others think you are self-serving and feel censored.
You are progressive, experienced, powerful.
You have been through much; your mind is keen.
Your economic and social reforms are just.
In contrast, what is the purpose of massive surveillance?
If you do not trust your people, will they continue to respect you?
You have much to think about President Xi. Some call you dictator.
