Somber Eyes

Last May (one week before Mother's day) my neighbor's son lost his life through peer pressure and a mistake! He always was so full of laughter and love. His mother hasn't been the same since, as one would expect in this situation!

              a mother cries;
        within the blush of morning light
      night tucks itself beneath the reddish rise
        as fragile life takes flight
  eyes closed in darkness, now only a cricket sings
  her world slowly crumbled the day he got his wings
    her dreams shatter...the church bell rings...
  she gathers herself but hides within somber eyes

sorry for your loss Jan....so many young are either caught in the drug addiction and dying or committing suicide as an escape... i drive a school bus so have been touched by many! I showed his mom the poem when i wrote it and she cried and then asked me to send it to her so she could print it out and hang it somewhere! hugs Sandy

This is SO good. Congrats on the win, Sandy. Your writing is as amazing as ever. Just think of all the beatiful poems you could have written the past few years you have been away!! (I'm going up for my dad's funeral very soon now. Just doing lots of Soup before my sister arrives to take me up to WA) Have a great week, my friend.

It was all I could think of for the challenge on crumbling... If it didn’t have to rhyme my muse would have gone somewhere else. I enjoy challenges but I will admit rhyme to me is like a little child trying to color within the lines :)
