Soldiergirl
She stands ready and willing
Her jaw set strong
To defend the freedoms
Of this land she calls home.
Each concern and each fear
She tucks safely within
For there’ll be no room for doubt
No time for pretend.
Honor and Duty
This by which she lives
Sacrifice and service
Are the offerings she gives.
For each night we lay down
In soft comfy beds
While she scans perimeters
Never lowers her head.
We kiss our children
Play ball in the yard
While she waits on loved ones
Just a letter or card.
Her weapon is clean,
Her boots, they shine
Brothers and sisters in service
Stand close by her side.
Dust in her eyes,
Sweat on her brow,
Onward she presses,
No furrow, nor scowl.
Each step more determined
Though long the road seems,
Pride rings through her voice
With every “HOOAH!” she screams.
She is honor, she is loyalty
She’s courage untold
She is integrity and respect
More precious than gold.
She is love for her family
Who prays for her return.
She is grace flowing freely
With every bullet she burns.
She is strength without weakness
She’s defender of worlds
She’s warrior, she’s ARMY
She’s a proud Soldiergirl.
And when the time comes,
For her maker to meet.
She’ll stand in His judgment
And this He’ll repeat
You’ve honored your country,
And your fellow man,
Put your life on the line
So that others can stand.
Now enter my kingdom
And down lay your gun
Well done, my child,
Your battle is done.
