So They Say

…they say happiness comes
from your thoughts
…your attitude curled up inside

And I can feel that is real
as I have felt the shifting from one
…to a different one

as I walk against the wind
…with head down I push my way
sometimes the dark of wickedness rises

and cannot the wrath of despair
blacken your eyes
from judgement given without seeing

cannot your tears streak shattered skin
at the sight of a child busted
rejected by those they only wish for love

cannot your throat constrict
and songs of anguish escape your mouth
when violence shadows your step

I can feel that then I must turn to light
...with purpose fill my head
gather what rainbows I remember

for cannot the brine of the sea
against the gentle curve of cheek
expand your heart with glee

cannot the snuggle of a child
wrap a smile against your bruised breast
to lighten the earth-bound burden

cannot the song of the sun
and the silver glow of the maiden moon
put the stars in your hopeful eyes

so then I lift my face to feel the gift
...to the heavens of rising hope
and hold tight my cradled memories

…wait for the clouds to dry their tears
and my heart a feather floats free
to dance my song of release... unfurled

Congratulations on your 1st place Jeanne, I can relate to your mood contrasts, brought on by outside influences, yet sometimes it can come from within ourselves, very emotive and uplifting ending, cheers David

Hey David...it is so true. sometimes it is in our own minds that we bring on the dark and it is that same that can choose to turn to the light. Thank you for stopping to comment.
