So Many Ruined Lives

His pride was ripped away, Nothing he could do, nothing he could say. And it tore at his very core, The day she turned from him and walked out of the door. She waited up this very night, like so many nights before, For him to come staggering through their door. A night out on the town was getting to be the norm these days, And she was getting disgusted and tired of his drunken ways. She tried to tell him but it did no good, She had better luck talking to a rock or a piece of wood. In his eyes he was doing no wrong, Said it was a man thing and that was the name of that song. Lonely nights and dining all alone at a table set for two, She finally reached her breaking point and said no more, I’m through. If only he knew for him the tears she cried, Maybe he would have straightened up or at least maybe tried. But a woman has limits just like a man, And living with a drunk was not her plan. She didn’t know what she was going to do or where she was going to go, But alcohol, his new mistress had won the battle without a blow.

Tough situation to find oneself but it is such a reality! Alcohol is one mistress no woman wishes to have to tango with. Yet, there is always hope. With God's grace and our willingness to get help, all things are possible!!! Peace, Audrey (Ladybug12)

Unfortunately, there are too many husbands (and wives) who find a new mistress in alcohol. I stood by a friend who drank day and night for 18 years. When he finally got cancer, the alcohol caused him to lose touch with reality far too soon. His loved ones suffered greatly, even though he intended them no harm. Prayers from his family and friends could not reverse the damage. If not for the drinking, he and I would have been more than friends. You touched my heart. Bless you, Carolyn

hard subject, I can't stand to be around an addict, it just seems such a waste.

Wow! Ron you describe so well what so many are going through. Sad, especially when love is so needed in these hard times we're all living in. This reads to me like a song I can almost here the music in my head. Could be rewritten as such. Anyway my friend, Thanks for sharing your heart with us, you certainly have touched mine with the compassion you feel. Take care Love Light Truth Patricia
