So Blessed With Spoken Word

We're blessed with gifts of words that sing a song,
     their melody through ears flows to the soul.
Through reading come the thoughts in silent ways;
     but spoken words can make the meaning whole.

As soft and loud inflections rise and fall
     the feeling fills the air with language art.
The imagery is stronger as words paint
     descriptions that come deep from poet's heart.

The spoken word for poetry brings forth
     those nuances that may be missed through eyes
when reading words placed on a screen or page;
     the voice is more prepared to aggrandize

the feelings and emotions there, instilled
     in written words that come from soul and heart.
The spoken word, our gift, has paved the way
     for poetry to be a spoken art.

Now audio, a medium that we
     just take for granted in our modern times,
will help to put one right inside the scene
     when poet speaks the metaphors and rhymes.

Indeed! What a wonderful tribute to an art form not discussed nearly enough, in my opinion ... I so love the way you write, Sandra, and I am NEVER disappointed when I click my mouse on a selection of yours - never! Your work is a peaceful refuge ... and a soul-shaking cry! LOVE this, my friend, and congrats!

Dear Greg, I came upon this old poem of mine and found your beautiful comment which I had previously missed. It must have been an extra busy time for me since I see there are several I did not respond to. But, I am so appreciative of your always kind, supportive, empathetic and uplifting words, and want to thank you very much for that. Hugs, Sandra <3
