Notes About The Poem

Snowy Owl

In my white feathered coat, I look divine.
I hunt at night, but also in bright day.
My bold rounded eyes as gold amber shine.
Dawn guilds my broad wing span flying away.
Soaring silent I clear steep mountain's crest,
Then swoop with precision to snatch my prey.
My talons cling tight to my beating breast,
Till I feed my owlets a father's way.
Gliding high o'er Arctic tundra I roam.
Lemmings are known as my favorite quest.
Soon I will prepare a warm cozy home
In early May when I build a large nest.

There's danger of wolves and foxes when near,
The prime predators we snowy owls fear.

Beautiful verse! The snowy owl is one of my favorite birds. Gorgeous photo as well. "Soaring silent I clear steep mountain's crest" Really liked that line there. Really brings the personality out of the majestic bird of prey. Always, Laura

What a gorgeous bird. the cruelty of nature has always bothered me. One of the great painters titled his work, "Big fish eat little fish." Seems there are no fish big enough to escape the process. I am a way behind, but will start submitting and commenting again. Love, Dave

Just read your note to me down here. How cool that you turned this into a sonnet without really thinking. I am dying to do the sonnet reply to How Much Do I love thee. i want it to be good though. WIsh I could find some quiet moments like a WHOLE DAY'S worth of them. Gonna go out soon to Papa Murphy's and get Joe a valentine shaped pizza. Do they have Papa Murphy's in Hawaii? We just love them.

No they don't Andrea....but it is funny you say that as my husband wanted Pizza today. He ate it and I stayed away. Haha We have Papa John's and Pizza hut, maybe others but I rarely eat it. Mike got his from Costco. I also love to have free time to write so I write late at night but then I am always tired the next day. Have a fun Valentine's Day! hugs, Connie

Matthew, it is said that people who love owls have: Silent wisdom, magical mystery, clairvoyance, fearlessness. You can access your strength and power, your ability to “see in the dark” of even the most mysterious circumstances. Connie, Sonnets take an effort. To fly within the structure requires a poet master. So, you are flying with the owls. It must be wonderful being a bird. I, however, tend to be a bird-brain!! Your personification captures the behavior and instincts so will.
