Snowglobe Memories
A little glass ball, round and silver bright,
Held a Christmas sparkling scene, snowy white.
Santa Claus stood, smiling jolly and red,
With some flying reindeers above his head,
Gifted to me long ago by my dad,
Who years back has soared to the sky, so sad.
When I shake the globe, a small stretch of snow,
Swirls and dances, spreading a gentle glow.
Covering Santa Claus` beard, head and hat,
Making the plastic landscape tall and fat
With winter's wonder, seeming soft and deep,
A secret promise I had pledged to keep.
Sight of the snow globe hurls back memories
And drive me in sweet and sour reveries,
Oft my dad told me tales, in whisper low
Of Santa gliding through the milky snow,
Of elves with wings that toiled, with tiny hands,
To make toys in workshops in distant lands.
He'd point to Santa in the globe and say,
“For Christmas he brings gifts for kids who pray,
Who behaves well with each one everyday,”
And I would nod my head without dismay,
Promising to oust naughty thoughts and deeds
And only ever to plant kindness seeds.
Close by, mum would be preparing the treat
For weekend, when the family would feast,
Ahead of the Christmas festivities
To plan the range of our activities;
These, with sweet smells of spice, candles and pine,
Are cute childhood memories truly mine.
The snow globe still rests seated on a shelf,
Beside a tarnished picture of myself,
A little boy, with protruding cheeks bright,
Smiling, holding the globe with all his might
Lest it should slip from his hand, fall and crack,
Leading him a precious treasure to lack.
Sands of time have flown, snowflakes by air blown,
Mum and dad wheeled to heaven, the child grown.
The cheeks crossed with wrinkles, the hair turned grey,
Yet, memories revert to yesterday,
Vibrant remembrances, so clear and true,
Their fondness still shining and sparkling through.
I often shake the globe, and watch it snow,
Remembering the love, the afterglow
Of Christmas mornings, snowy bright and bold,
Incredible stories dad at times told,
The glorious treats mom often prepared
And the affection both always offered.
Such memories will sparkle in my heart
Until the final breath from me will part,
Will remain a treasure, deep rich and bright
An ever secured world, filled with warm light
Lit by the snow globe, offered as a gift,
That time cannot ever erase or shift.
Sands of time have flown, snowflakes by air blown,
Mum and dad wheeled to heaven, the child grown.
The cheeks crossed with wrinkles, the hair turned grey,
Yet, memories revert to yesterday,
Vibrant remembrances, so clear and true,
Their fondness still shining and sparkling through.
I often shake the globe, and watch it snow,
Remembering the love, the afterglow
Of Christmas mornings, snowy bright and bold,
Incredible stories dad at times told,
The glorious treats mom often prepared
And the affection both always offered.
Such memories will sparkle in my heart
Until the final breath from me will part,
Will remain a treasure, deep rich and bright
An ever secured world, filled with warm light
Lit by the snow globe, offered as a gift,
That time cannot ever erase or shift.
