Snowcapped Graves

Snowcapped graves marking frozen lives once shared
Reminding me of the winter graveyard walk, unable to let go
Frozen in shock, in a day that no words could show
My being shattered, alone again, with no answers to anything
I remember what it’s like to feel like I cannot go on,
With this life dealt to me, like a bad hand of cards
I remember the lack of opportunity to say goodbye
So instead, I stood at our grave, talking to the dirt
Oh how much can return, by a sight seen in this way
Snowcapped graves transporting thoughts to that day

Snowcapped graves, grave indeed. I remember we went back to Grandma’s grave. The open earth revealed the vault where her coffin was interred and next to her, close by, my grandpa...i could now imagine where his broken body lay. Poignant write. <3 Congratulations on POTD!

"I stood at our grave" This thought holds me so close. Never wanting to linger in such a moment, yet- it is a moment that we all must face. One day. This is tender and moving, all at the same time. Congratulations Heidi, on Poem of the Day. ~ Brandy
