Smoke and Ashes

A new sun rises Breathe and sigh The brightest stars fade from the sky Watch a song bird Spread its wings See him fly as life begins But what is this bird that lay so still Upon the frozen ground That learned to fly in a summer sky When love was all around Where does love go When lovers are gone What is the gift of love Smoke and ashes Winter winds Summer's sordid senseless sins Bitter brine on battered beaches Rock and rubble Snow stained air In the moonlight Dead man crying There is no peace in prayer If forever comes tomorrow And all that's left is yesterday Will the emptiness and all sorrow Never fade away
