We were a few cars back
Just missing the wreck
Her car was smashed
No worse than she was really
The other guy had gone on to heaven
Before anyone even came
To the scene of this collision
She was an old friend
And we’d had some trouble
But that was in the past
Now… I wandered what happened
Was she going to be ok?
She was drunk as one gets
And driving way past the limit
Feeling like the 90 proof
Had made her invincible
I would have been the one
Who she crashed into to, too…
Except for the divine intervention
That kept me just far enough away
To see everything that day
Without feeling as smashed as she did!
