Small Echo of Death
Cattle skeletons. - grim reminders
of once living herds
Bleaching bones crowned by
macabre skulls with long horns.
Scattered on the edges of
drought stricken, barren places
There they met their deaths
on unrelenting hot sand.
I see the outline of the bones
white against the desert sand
drought is so indifferent for
look here - where a smaller set
is curled within the pelvic space
Poor unborn calf -
that echoes her death
in miniature.
