Slipping Away

You know when you have it all figured out
You have held her little hands
You have plans of the way you want her to be
You know how you want to mould her
            But
She doesn't like to be held anymore
She wants to sit in her own big girl seat
She has her own mind now
Mommy cannot sway her little "no's" anymore
She jumps when she wants...
She skips when she feels...

You live in fear
You fear the dangerous society, the peer pressures, the influences, her friends...
Would she stand strong
Would she make it through
Would you protect her all the way through
Saving her from all the traps before her

The little shells she collects with you and from you
Is the only hope to hold on too

Great write Njeri. With three daughters I know what you're saying. That point of letting go and trusting is the hardest. If they falter and fall you will always be there to help dust them off and dive back into the fray. Kind regards, Ian

How stirring.....how sweet...a mother's love is beyond compare. I have felt these feelings, my dear...My daughter will travel again to continue her studies....and she is still...my little girl. Loved this piece. You wrote with style and finesse...and a whole lot of love.
