Slipped Away

The years slipped away
Slowly but gradually day after day
Echoes ebb in and out of conscious thought
Wrought by the future I've been brought

I could have been a cloud
If the fates had allowed
Drifting in peace through the sky
Never once asking why

I'm a drifting dream
Settling beside a stream
I can feel my fears
As I shed my tears

This is just how I feel
And none of this seems real
The years slipped away
Slowly but gradually day after day

Christopher, there is a soft, lovely lull to this poem that relaxed me instantly.
