Notes About The Poem

Sleepless Energy

Attention deficit keeps
my dear man from normal sleep.
He does not know dream stage zees
yet achieves much more than most.
His energy is endless
despite sleep deprivation.
My love lives life wide asleep.

Dear CayCay, Well, I think you’ve captured the paradox of sleeplessness with such grace along with the restless mind that somehow still creates, still moves, still loves. Love doesn’t always need symmetry, sometimes it thrives in the mismatched hours, in the watching, in the acceptance of how someone moves through the world. I love that it’s soft, wise, and beautifully awake. Autumn Blessings, Dear CayCay, Daniel

And sometimes, it's ADHD!!! Your comments are tender prose, and I'm blessed to be the recipient of all they convey. Thank you, Daniel. CayCay

Not even a cat nap? He must be very tired. I enjoy the poem.

NAP? Heavens no. He has ADHD, lived with it all his life until I FINALLY convinced him to see a doc, and last week it actually happened. There's already a positive difference, thank you, God. Take care, Hilda and thanks ... CayCay

I need to change 'darling' to another word that lets the reader know I mean my man, not son. My oversight, I should have realized the vagueness of darling and I'm thankful to you for unknowingly letting me know. Appreciate you, Paige. CayCay

Wide asleep... Sound awake... It all catches up with as we blow out the candles on the next birthday cake. ~ gw

Just last week he finally did what I've been 'prompting' for 13 yrs, went to the doc, diagnosed (surprise) with ADHD. He is already improving for the best (so cool), I can now talk to him without him wandering around the room, and, even better, he's sleeping at night. A miracle, right here where I live. Thank you, Gershon CayCay

Wow. Good job. I am s bit like him. At one time I was sleeping only 4 hours a night and I never felt tired during the day. I just missed dreams, so I got my sleeping pills. Today they hardly keep me asleep any more. I don't believe all people require 8 or even 6 hours minimum of sleep each night. Once again, this is very well written.

CayCay, this is so tender and vivid. Your last line lingers beautifully and feels like a paradox that deepens the whole piece. Brilliant.

Oh, I've tried everything to catch it, and his ability to use the energy no matter if he's hurting or not, but Anne-Lise, I never succeed so I nap instead. Also, it is because of ADHD which he was finally diagnosed with last week. YES YES YES YES There is already visible improvement. NOW, you and I need answers. Thanks, CayCay
