Sleeping Alone
I saw you a hundred times
Never dreamt you’d be mine
Thought you'd be married by now
But you never did somehow
and it always made me wonder
When you'd come home in the summer
Shopping for shoes
I looked for you
In the bookstore
I wanted to talk more
Dodging your compliments
I knew they meant
nothing at all to you
any more than you wanted them to
But the little girl wanted to believe
But she just wouldn’t
Heard your parents were there
somewhere
But I shyed away
That’s what I’m good at
Now I lay…
Sleeping alone
Dreaming about you
In your bed
I jerk awake
All alone
And wish I was with you
to stay
You really shouldn’t let me sleep alone, dear
And I really shouldn’t let you sleep alone
I run down the street
As fast as I can
All the way down
To the next town
To the nearest airport
Jump the fastest plane
Just to get to you
Just to get to you
I found the window
Of your bedroom
Of your house
On your street
In your little city
In your country
I looked in
But I stayed low
you're asleep
You’ll wake up soon
I’m hiding out
So you can’t see me
I stay down
Til you want me
Til you want me
My God boy
Don’t you know?
Up in your room in the states
It won’t always be this way…
It’ll get harder before it gets harder still…
Then one day
Its like the Beach Boys say
We’ll say goodnight
And we can stay…
In your window
See your five o clock shadow
And it drives me crazy
And maybe I’ll just sneak in
your room, your bed, right in
But I… don’t
Kiss you sweetly
On your lips
Feel me
Touch your skin
Be good to you
But I…won’t
I was sleeping alone
Dreaming about you
In your bed
I jerked awake
All alone
And wished I was with you
to stay
