Slave No More

How would I tell you my despair Without remembering the fate we share? My eyes still swell with tears Every time I think of all these years. I was not free even in the womb Sold just before my hair I can comb To work far away never to return In the plantation each day I can discern. I labored until I'm skin and bones During cold nights you can hear me groan. It is the only way I can let out the pain Or else sanity will leave my brain. I endured it with the hope that one day My master will free me along the way But cruel it is I would be sold again Aboard the slave ship I released my chain. I'll be free and be gone with the waves; They can captivate me up until my grave So I will lie far from the shore After my death I'm slave no more.
