Slave

She wrapped herself in a beautiful lie Bound so tight she was unable to fly Slave to some pictues in a magazine The essence of her could barely be seen Bound so tight she was unable to fly Choices she had made but didn't know why The essence of her could barely be seen The face of a woman who's only a teen Choices she had made but didn't know why Taking her love from a much older guy The face of a woman who's only a teen Absorbing sad from the places she's been Taking her love from a much older guy Minutes became years as her youth went by Absorbing sad from the places she's been Wanted happy but became sad and mean Minutes became years as her youth went by Life of desperation and getting high Wanted happy but became sad and mean Pain began early when she was fourteen Life of desperation and getting high She wrapped herself in a beautiful lie Pain began early when she was fourteen Slave to some pictures in a magazine

Very powerful poem, Richard. Real, gritty and honest depiction of a sex slave. This pantoum form, I will have to seriously consider giving it a try ... I like how a message/theme can get repeated that you want to impress upon the reader. Great job, maestro. Much love to you. RW

I wrote poetry back in grade school, but stopped until I was in my forties. I wrote steady for about a year and a bit and stopped for seven years. Now for the last three years I have been writing regularly. My first book came out this January and I have received tremendous reviews. It started out as 75 pages and grew to 320 as a result of a mentor pushing me to dig deeper. I am glad he did.

Well my mom has told me to be proud of who and what i am she made me as perfect as i can be so what you see is what you get men who look for perfection miss the little things that make a woman perfect the perfect woman is the one that completes you... Gina

Thanks Gina, I appreciate you looking at one of my less recent poems. I sometimes thin it must be difficult being a woman with all the unreasonable expectations nowadays. Often what women think men are looking for is far from reality. What do you think???

Such sadness in your words. Too often young girls look for outward validation of beauty and worth when it is within them.

A poem of incomparable beauty that depicts the truth and conveys a message! How many young are lost in this manner is beyond numbers! The worst thing is for someone to become a slave to his passions! Bravo! A 7 for beauty and substance!

My wife runs an eating disorder program here in Kelowna. Most people don't realize what a serious problem it is.

I agree, Richard. This person that I mentioned is a close family member. She has been dyeing her hair blonde since she was 15, and she barely eats anything to maintain a perfect body. I want her to see that there is so much more to her than just a pretty face.

We need to cultivate the inner beauty. It is so hard in a society that is infatuated with appearance.

WOW! What an awesome write on such a difficult subject, Richard. You did very well in highlighting the pain and sorrow many women go through to become accepted. Hugs
