Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.SAD is sometimes known as "winter depression" because the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter.

Many people do not realise they have it.  Colder and longer nights can affect it.

Some medical conditions like diabetes or thyroid related can trigger it.

Symptoms of SAD
Symptoms of SAD can include:

a persistent low mood
a loss of pleasure or interest in normal everyday activities
irritability
feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness
feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day
sleeping for longer than normal and finding it hard to get up in the morning
craving carbohydrates and gaining weight
difficulty concentrating
decreased sex drive
For some people, these symptoms can be severe and have a significant impact on their day-to-day activities.

Coffee and spirituality can help and both are a good combination.

Line of enquiry: “God within me is the enjoyer of the aroma As also this dopamine boosting flavour I taste I surrender all pleasures to the dweller of my heart Breath by breath thus that my soul presence be chaste”
When ego controls a soul's mortal direction, some remain asleep without a spiritual connection. I count my blessings upon dawn's resurrection, as an orchestra of robins compose with affection. But curse of Seasonal Affective Disorder infliction leaves a heart feeling melancholic in rejection. Pills can take time to ease hormonal dejection, so a tongue is mute when mirrors show dull reflection. Some turn to the universe in times of retrospection. Some prostrate in faith through silent genuflection  Some seek nature or vitamins to aid meditation. Some clear angst through powers of intellection. There's a sacred solace in morning contemplation, soothed through the aroma of dark elixir elation. Intense notes with sweet tones to relax abjection. Each sip of potion is a symphony of perfection. A clay chalice acting as a vessel for protection, holding liquid nectar of your desired selection. Awakening senses to transmute a mind's complexion, igniting your spirit with wings of phoenix projection. Toxic thoughts plagued from internal interjection, now flow in smooth positive harmonic introspection. In a brief existence a heart struggles from imperfection. Brewed philosophies are a bridge to divine intervention.

Must admit, winter does drag on a bit. Coffee and vitamin D work well, and a hot country to visit.

A heart struggles from imperfection....a bridge to divine intervention. You can link these mix and match, very creative ! Toxic thoughts plagued...awakening senses to transmute...holding liquid nectar etc. Indeed the inter-relation of connections. (Which was delivered well to the reader. Plugged in ready.)

Ahh, my cup of tea, sorry meant coffee. How well you've created this Monorhyme. Your opening lines are sublime. God within me is the enjoyer of the aroma. Yes, indeed, I agree Souls insatiable need for the stuff is getting out of hand for me, so, I've cut down to only one cup soon as I wake. Nothing less, nothing more. Really great lines here, I'm sure it'll do very well in the contest, however, good luck. A fave for me...Hugs

Outstanding, Silent One. Your poem is deep and profound in its depiction of SAD. I appreciate the different ways folks cope with SAD...you nailed that part. I love how your wove 'sipping on coffee' as a means of dealing with the disharmony that is SAD. Artistic and creative. Have a splendid evening, Sara

Very well done! Love the opener then the joy of dawn’s birdsong. So many great lines: so a tongue is mute when mirrors show dull reflection & sip of potion, clay chalice…

SO, what a marvelous rhyming creation even if your subject is SAD! A friend in the northwest found they had this condition - now use a special sunlamp. Love your imagery - "clay chalice!" In inspiring image - depth like a deep coffee cup, healing and a sense of the sacred! Your cue words carry the theme as smoothly as a smooth cuppa - brewed, sip, morning, aroma. Beautifully crafted! I think you have a winner! Thank you for bringing SAD to light with the power of your words! Blessings!

SAD can also happen in the summer when one gets too much light and then can't sleep (insomnia). Depression in any form is the pits whether it be SAD, post-partum, or deep clinical depression. Good topic upon which to write for the contest. Sara K

Dear friend, SO. Your poem showcases exceptional artistry, adorned with meaningful words. It serves as a testament to the ineffable essence of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which elicits the realization that when one's ego governs their mortal path, one remains oblivious to the importance of a spiritual bond. However, love's essence continues to reside within our hearts, offering solace through coffee dark elixir elation. Your composition is so deep. This is Fave.

Monorhyme! You do them so well. Seasonal affective disorder, you’ve got it all explained very well here. I love the picture too youve chosen to go with this and your rhymes here is so very captivating and unique and flows so well with one another in such a mellifluous manner. I love so many lines in this . Especially “ When ego controls a soul's mortal direction, some remain asleep without a spiritual connection.“ brilliant opening! So true! grasp the reality! As they refuse to accept and see the light. “ as an orchestra of robins compose with affection. But curse of Seasonal Affective Disorder infliction leaves a heart feeling melancholic in rejection.” i feel the depth of those lines and how SAD, affects and cause one to drown.. “ Awakening senses to transmute a mind's complexion, igniting your spirit with wings of phoenix projection.“ so original and authentic your way with expressing! And delivering thoughts, how coffee can be the light through darkness on cold wintry days so well depicted too! Pleasure reading this impeccable write! Im sure seeker will love this! Best wishes!
