Single
Tonight the moon sleeps in beneath the sea,
The waves move up and down and I’m at bay.
The air caresses my darkening hair,
Acting as my lover in the darkness
Who leaves to greet the city lights nearby.
The lights are dim from fires along the beach
Where, like Indians, the lovers sing and dance
While I, alone, am facing towards the sea,
My toes reaching out to touch the water.
The wave recoils and draws away- I watch
As it’s swallowed up in the silky foam
That pushes new and larger waves my way.
