Sin of Science

The claim that science let the old gods die; In our wisdom we needed them no more. They did not speak like they did once before; We had no time to pray or wonder why. Our quest for power has brought global pain The claim that science let the old gods die; In plumes of smoke that bore the acid rain We let our poisons destroy earth and sky. In words of politics we heard Man’s lie; We took control of fate to sate our greed. The claim that science let the old gods die; We took and stole from those with greater need. Mid crimes of hate we voice protest, at last; And whispered truths have heard our sorrow cry, As faith returns to see beyond and past The claim that science let the old gods die. JF, 04 April 2011
