"The stone Saints of Gorton Monastery (Manchester) were gathered together in storage during the extensive refurbishment of this once thriving then dilapidated (at the time of the photograph), yet architecturally stunning, building.
I imagine, after years standing on high pedestals, their backs against the walls of the cold stone building, they were eventually re-united. Together for the first time since the late 1800s - here the image captures them, before being re-instated on their elevated positions, and after the extensive refurbishment programme was completed, almost (one imagines) in a huddle of prayer, or sharing the gifts they each carry, telling the old stories of lives once lived and journeys of faith taken."
