Silent Partner
It doesn’t pay to think too much when chatting is required
An open mind is where the most amazing lines are sired
No one ever spoke about a host of daffodils
Whilst ‘Head Office’ was ranting, “Look, there’s zombies in the hills!”
For watching TV, side by side, the notion in my head
Would disappear like fairy dust if just one word you said
So I will nod and smile while clinging to my latest thread
Until you, my darling wife, have gone off up to bed
For only then can I explore each nuance and express
My feelings of euphoria or even of distress
My darling, I’m quite certain that you know I love you dearly
But, if you had an on/off switch then I could think more clearly
