Silent Love Affair
Softly I whistle from across the fence
your head like lightening lifts
in greeting as your eyes come to life
you meet me halfway and
lower your chin to my shoulder
as I throw my arms
around your neck, nestling into
your warmth and inhaling your aroma
your breath is soft and warm,
sweet smelling as hay,
in the crisp morning air.
My hands run across the vast
expanse of your broad shoulders
remembering all the times they
carried me and my problems
to the slow running river where
we’ve spent most our days
in sunshine and blissful silence
running across the grassy plains
I could feel the power in
every graceful stride
feeling safe and secure
You’re a friend who asks no questions
you willfully do my bidding and
are always there to listen
A friend like you,
is a friend indeed,
you, my faithful companion,
my steed.
