Silent Echoes of Her Tongue

It's always those who reside in our hearts,
whose words, like lightning,
electrocute our soul,

and in each pain there is a lesson.

Her life was like a room without a view,
those 'rainy day' eyes,
could have formed a deep river,
but no ship sailed upon it,
to carry me to her

and I would have kissed away every tear.

Misplaced, I could feel her yearning,
for a home, she had never known,
confused and lost, but her silence,
left her trapped in burdensome meadows,

and I wonder if I could have shown her the way.

From the silent echoes of her tongue,
I could feel the malady of her spirit,
feel the lacerations piercing her heart.
If only my words could have soothed her,

but even they could not save her.

As the lights dimmed,
silent stars became the nature of my poetry,
I asked the moon why?
but clouds covered his expression.

Now my mind is a time machine
of her memories, her voice still haunts,
as I ponder if the thunder will persist,
because I'm too afraid to close my eyes.

Simple Musing
Silent One

Wow. 'Tears forming a river with no ships'. But when we do not close our eyes, the cornea dries out and we cannot see any longer. Which actually (as you might allude to) can be less painful. Thank you for posting this poem.

A beautiful pen; a couple of my favorite verses: "could have formed a deep river, but no ship sailed upon it, to carry me to her" This is such great imagery. "I asked the moon why? but clouds covered his expression." This is wonderful!

Silent One, your breathtaking and sadly beautiful poem is emotionally haunting and tragically evocative. Metaphoric beauty and heartache is expressed with your smooth poetic flow like a deep poignant river my friend.. Warmest wishes always.. ~Susan

Hi Silent, you use free verse to its full extent. I have always believe that free verse gives a poet more scope in whatever they do. You use this scope to its full extent, and sometimes beyond. There is always something of interest within your work. Your words hold the reader within your thoughts easily, they paint such vivid visions, playing with the emotions of the reader. You are indeed a wordsmith. This is another excellent piece. Have a wonderful end to Saturday. Your friend always...Mike.
